Cleaning Rugs and Carpets!

What is the Best Way to Clean Your Rug and Carpet?

First impressions always count so when you walk into a home that has dirty looking carpets and rugs it can be off-putting.

Carpets and rugs are going to get grubby overtime (unless there is a strict no-shoes rule at your household) because they tend to feel the brunt of daily activity making it almost unavoidable.

There are things that you can do to help save carpets and to keep them cleaner for longer such as using rugs. Rugs can be moved around the home and are easily replaced if they do get incredibly dirty. It would also be far cheaper to replace a rug than it would be to replace the carpets in your home because rugs do vary in price and they do not require any fitting like carpets do.

Rugs are also great for capturing the majority of the contents on the bottom of your shoes before it gets spread around the home so it’s well worth placing a good hardwearing rug or doormat near to entrance points and high traffic areas, within the home. Most people opt for a hall runner if they have a long entrance hall as these are great dirt trapping rugs.

Usually people who have a ‘no shoes rule’ at their home generally find that they cannot put it in place when they have guests or visitors who don’t usually visit often because they tend to feel uncomfortable about telling someone to remove their shoes as they enter their home so a good quality doormat or rug is ideal.
What to do when carpets and rugs get dirty?

Regular cleaning can help prolong the life of carpets and rugs but people don’t always get the time to do regular carpets cleaning and therefore they tend to get a build-up of dirt and stains as time goes by.

Even when carpets and rugs have gotten to the stage where they only appear good for the bin you may still be able to rescue them (by following some of these simple tips!) to get a little bit more life out of them.

If all else fails you could opt to use a professional cleaning agency which is still the more cost-effective approach when comparing to replacing the carpets and rugs for new. Many people use cleaning agencies these days for all sorts of reasons but most will hire for the first time when carpets, rugs and upholstery are in need of a good clean because it can be tricky to clean those without the proper equipments or detergents.

But, if you want to try something for a quick fix this is very worthwhile and it should help to improve the look and appearance of your carpet and rugs;
How to DIY clean carpets and rugs!

•    Start with vacuuming the carpet/rug to remove loose debris
•    Spray on a foam carpet cleaning solution and allow it to soak in for longer on tougher stains. (You should notice stains lifting as white foamy solutions tend to appear cloudy as it works its magic!)
•    Use a soft bristle brush and work on small areas at a time, use circular scrubbing motions and try not to touch unaffected areas of the carpet unless you are cleaning the whole of it.
•    Rinse out the scrubbing brush regularly as you clean so that you remove the dirt as you go.
•    It may require a few attempts for particular stubborn areas but once you are satisfied with the result, rinse the area thoroughly.
•    Blot the area dry to remove as much moisture as possible.
•    Allow drying naturally; do not step on the freshly cleaned area until completely dry.
