Things to Do at Home Before You Leave for Vacation

go on a vacation

Summer is here and that means that it’s time for vacation. The bags are packed, the family is ready, the trip is set, the destination is clear. Is that all? Well, you are forgetting something – you could do some home cleaning before you go. “What?!” you ask. “Clean the house? For whom?” Funny you should ask that – mainly for yourself. You never put too much thought into it, but there is actually a pretty good logical reasoning behind doing domestic cleaning before going on a vacation. Read below and see why this is so important and why you can only benefit from it, and how to approach the cleaning.

house cleaning

The Reason

Do you really want your vacation to end with you returning to a dirty home? After all the time you spend having fun and suddenly you are coming home and the first thing you see is the need for house cleaning? Talk about an anti-climactic end to a vacation. Don’t let your return be a downer and instead do the cleaning beforehand. That way when you do return, you can focus on what little rest you have left before returning to the regular week and not spending it doing housework. Save yourself the trouble of beginning work just after you had your rest – do the after-rest first and then engage with the tedious world of house chores and domestic cleaning. Or, you know, pay a cleaning company to do it – you know your finances best.

The Approach

But the best part of house cleaning before a vacation is that you do not need to be as thorough as you normally would. There is no need to apply house cleaners that add protection against dirt since there will be nobody around to get the surfaces dirty. You merely need to remove the dust and dirt and get everything clean, and you can do a superficial cleaning instead of deep cleaning the place. No need for maintenance, no need for focusing on certain areas because they will ‘get dirty too fast’. It only takes time and a bit of effort to get the job done.

window cleaning

Start top to bottom, clean the ceiling, take care of the cobwebs in the corner of the room, go down to the walls and windows, do a good wiping spree with the proper cleaners, and then finish up with some nice upholstery and carpet cleaning. Try not to make a mess before you go and that’s it – your job is done. And since usually you could use less toxic and chemical-filled cleaners for a healthier effect, there will be nobody at home and plenty of time for any toxins to dissipate. You can pretty much use any type of detergent and cleaner you want. By the time you get back home, said cleaner will have only remained a memory in the cleanliness of your carpet.

Or, as mentioned, you can simply take the short path and get a cleaning company over. A professional cleaner will do the job either before or after the vacation – just be sure not to tell them that you are going on one. Nobody but your neighbours needs to know that the home will be empty.

hire professional cleaners

You got the gist of it. Simply work for the cleanliness of the house and make sure that it does not greet you with a dirty setting and take even more away from your rest. What point is there of taking a breather if the first thing after it is doing all the dust work, right?
