Eco-friendly Methods of Removing Molds from Your House

mould removal methods

Mould is something you never want to hear used in relation to your home. And in order to remove it from your home’s vocabulary, you have to take proper measures. If there is mould, clean it up. If there is no mould, then work on some prevention, just in case. It is dangerous, for both yourself and your house. If left unchecked, mould will interfere with the structure of the house and it will eventually start working on its rot. And for yourself, mould is dangerous to your health as it might potentially cause some respiratory problems. And respiratory problems are something you never want to hear used in relation to yourself.

But taking care of the mould often times involves the use of items that are actually more dangerous than the mould itself. All the cleaners on the market contain enough chemicals to cause more harm than mould ever could. So instead of opting for them, here are some eco-friendly methods to incorporate into your home cleaning and make cleaning mould easy and safe.

DIY Household Mould Cleaners
Remember the immortal green duo – baking soda and vinegar? Well, they make a return here and show that they are useful even when battling things like mould.

•    Baking Soda: Two parts baking soda, one part water. Mix them up, make a soda paste and then apply to any mouldy areas to see the excellent cleaning effect. Baking soda is abrasive enough to tackle the mouldy texture and clean up the problematic area in a single go. Wipe the paste over the area and leave it to dry up a bit. When you come back, scrub away and see the mould disappear.

•    Vinegar: Mix white vinegar and water in a spray bottle to produce the ultimate all-purpose cleaner. Spray over the problematic area, leave it to let the vinegar’s acidic properties do their magic, then return and wipe away at the mouldy area – now an ex-mouldy area. Some people might have a problem with the smell of vinegar, so you can always add some essential oil to add a scent of your choice.

And then you have some other solutions, a bit on the more subtle side. Make use of them at any time to get the same effects while trying to get the home clean and mould-free.

•    Citrus Fruit Seed Extract: Citric fruits have these amazing acidic qualities because of the citric acid inside them. The good part is that the acid is actually healthy, so if you add about 20 or so drops of extract to 1-2 cups of water, the mixture will be about as good as other house cleaners. And the best part – it leaves no scent behind to worry about.

•    Hydrogen Peroxide: This can be used in two ways. One, you spray a bit of hydrogen peroxide directly over the mould and leave it for a good 15 minutes and then scrub clean and dry. Two, the stronger solution, combine it with vinegar into a spray bottle and use it on the mouldy area, then leave it for a bit and, again, scrub at the problematic spot. Either way, it definitely works and will keep the nasty bit of mould away.

And with this, your quest for taking care of the mould around your house with zero chemicals involved may begin. Another way to make sure you keep the house clean and green is to prevent the appearance of mould altogether. Make sure there are no damp spots in your home and find a way to regulate the humidity of the air there. That way mould will have no reasons to appear and you can enjoy your clean and mould-free home all the time without making an effort of cleaning anything.
