Best Ways to Encourage Your Child to Be Physically Active
As a parent you have probably faced this issue before – you nag and nag and nag and kids just don’t listen. Before you pull out the heavy artillery and start grounding them, cutting their internet privileges or something similar you should consider taking a different and more creative approach to. Let’s get started on the potential changes to house cleaning and chores:
• Put the toys away before bed
Our kids tend to need to focus on cleaning up their messes, especially when they are pretty young and they need to be reminded. You can simply use this as a game before bed, helping them in the process and making it a challenge to see how fast they can put them back.
• Tossing them in baskets
For a lot of the items and toys that won’t really damage them at all, especially when it comes down to plush toys and building bricks. Turning the task of putting toys away in the right place into a game will help make the game of cleaning them up a lot more fun in the long run.
• Soaking your car and cleaning it
Preschoolers can have a lot of fun working on little tasks with their parents, especially if it comes down to splashing and cleaning a car on a hot summer day. Turn it into a game and see about making use of the kids to your advantage when you’re washing the car.
• Setting the table
Before you get the nice and tasty meals you will have a chance for the kids to help out with setting the table. Once they work on this you can take it up a notch by doing place cards or another approach. You can have them helping with cleaning up the table as well.
• Stacking of dirty plates
You can not only teach your kids to clear up their plates, but they can also work on cleaning them and washing them too. Do that and your kids will become more disciplined from an early age, but do so by giving them an example and being positive about it.
• Soaking the dishes
This is another option you can take as it will help make your kids pick up the dishes after themselves, but it won’t take too much for them to get involved. At a very young age you won’t have any issues pertaining to them getting used to it.
• Organizing your shoes
You can have the kids assist with keeping the family shoes organized, as it will make for a good chance to get them involved in house chores and domestic cleaning.
• Watering the house plants
Nothing will be more exciting for kids than taking care of something alive or making something with their own hands. Summer is the perfect time to make for easier outdoor chores like watering your plants, trimming flowering shrubs as needed and picking herbs.
• Folding towels and clothes
Start small on this by folding napkins, washcloths, small shirts and socks for example. They you can move on and graduate the kids to more complicated pieces of clothing. You can also have them helping with placing the clothes in their respective drawers, as this will help them with home cleaning after laundry and making organizing skills something they learn from experience. At the end of the day this will be something you can help with, little by little having them learn discipline and more without having to be harsh with them while you do so. Do that and you will stand a much better chance for them to enjoy domestic cleaning and chores.
