How to Maintain a Leather Sofa?
Furniture cleaning is something to be wary of. You do not want to enter your living room and see that it has suddenly become a place where old and stale furniture exists to make for a decor nobody wants to use. You need to treat your furniture to upholstery cleaning just like you make sure that your home receives its fair share of house cleaning. And it is actually easy to do it – there is a variety of ways to handle your furniture, even if it is of the capricious leather kind. Here you will see six ways to take care of your leather furniture whenever you need to.
1. Vinegar
Home cleaners are perfect to deal with leather furniture. You do not need to use special upholster cleaners when everything you need is actually in your kitchen cabinet. Take the bottle of white vinegar, mix with a bit of water, and you can also add some lemon oil for scent, if you want to bring the freshness to your sofa and / or armchairs. Then wipe at the problematic spots on the leather and there you have it – clean furniture, happy days.
2. Water and soap
If you want to get even more basic, you will probably be surprised to hear that the simple mixture of water and soap is just as good for cleaning furniture. Lather up the area you wish to be cleaned, then wipe with a wet cloth or wipes and no surface stain will remain.
3. Vacuuming
Of course, sofa is not impervious to dust – in fact, it gets it quite a lot, even if you do spend a lot of time on it. Vacuuming the sofa is quite necessary to keep it safe from all the nasty dust mites. Do this every once in a week or two and upholstery cleaning will not be as necessary.
4. Baby wipes
Surprise! You can simply open a package of baby wipes and apply on the leather furniture. The only drawback to this is the amount of wipes you will have to use since one wipe will hardly be enough for even half an armchair. But then again, it is a cheap product and it contains all the necessary elements to keep the furniture clean.
5. Lemon juice...
A drop of lemon juice and a moist wipe will not only get some of the difficult stains off your sofa, but it will also sanitise it and make it healthy for use. Lemon juice is a great disinfecting product and it will keep the sofa clean and safe with its citric acid which will be harmless to the leather surface.
6. ...and cream of tartar
But then comes the great combination you can use! Lemon juice, when mixed with tartar cream, will have a wonderful cleaning effect and it will get to most stains and remove them. And you also get a bonus effect – the combination of the two has a bleaching effect which will work wonderfully on lighter leather if you have any darker stains to deal with. It is easy to use and provides brilliant results.
With these six ways you will be able to keep your upholstery clean by barely making an effort. The only thing you have to worry about is procrastinating and neglecting the furniture while the stains set in. If you avoid that and make sure to use these methods, you are sure to have a wonderful clean leather-bound living room decor which you will be able to enjoy to the fullest aesthetical capacity.
